IE stops working on pages that require passwords

I'm trying to clean up my moms computer from a buttload of spyware and different virii, and I think I have pretty much everything cleaned up, but I still am having a problem. When I get on internet explorer, there are a couple selective sites that I can't access. Like for instance, wellsfargo.com. I'll put in my username and password and then try to log on, but then it goes to the "the page cannot be displayed" page. Another example is when I try to check my school's email account and I'll get that same error page even before I put in my password. I'm know both of these webpages work though cause I can access them on another computer.

So does anyone know why this might be happening? Do I still have a virus maybe? I've ran Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, and AVG numerous times and it looks like everything's clear. Also, I just reinstalled IE 6.0 but that didn't help.

Thanks for the help

Hey Schadenfroh. Thanks for responding.

Anyways, I can't post the hijackthis log because I'm not at my moms place anymore. But I went through HiJackThis numerous times and deleted things that looked suspicious to me. Last time I went through, I googled a bunch of the entries and tried to make sure that were ok.

Also, this problem might have something to do with activex controls. I tried going to windows update to get the latest patches, but I couldn't connect because it said I was preventing activex controls. Well I've tried a bunch of things to fix this but I've had no luck. I deleted some iusomething.dll files, defaulted all the security setting...nothing worked. Could this be related?

Thanks again for the help.

You are probably trying to access secured sites. Check into the security/SSL settings in IE- options-advanced-security.

I've checked all the security settings and they seem to be ok. The security setting themselves are pretty low, and then I went to Advanced and checked SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TSL 1.0. Still isn't working though.

Any other ideas?
