I wanted to update my IE 5.0 to 5.5 without having to download it on my 56k, so I thought "let's use one of those free isp cd's that come in the mail every week or so." Big Mistake. After installing IE 5.5, my browser title now says "IE provided by EarthLink Network, Inc." and the icon is now an ugly earthlink icon. Does anyone know how to fix this? How do get rid of all this Earthlink junk?
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling/uninstalling, eventually downloading IE 5.5 anyway trying to fix it, but nothing's worked. Thanks for any help.

Go to Start - Run then type:

   rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear

and that should reset it back to normal.

omg, i don't believe it. Thank you so much!!! I figured it must have something to do with windows itself cause only 98SE had this problem. In win2k, it works fine. But anyway, it works! Thanks a lot!

Yep, its not uncommon at all to have companies brand their own IE. We have our own, and send it out to customers that want it.

I didn't realize changing it was that easy though...good to know

Actually it's in the registry.

In Regedit, navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Identities
\{GUID}
\Software
\Microsoft
\Outlook Express
\5.0

In the right-hand pane, right-click on the value WindowTitle and then click Delete. Or click on Modify and enter the title of your choice.
To remove the branding from IE, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\Internet Explorer
\Main

In the right-hand pane, right-click on the value Window Title (note the blank space) and then click Delete. Or click on Modify and enter the title of your choice.
To remove the custom logo from IE, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\Internet Explorer
\Toolbar

In the right-hand pane, right-click on BrandBitmap and click Delete, then do the same for SmBrandBitmap.
