IE or FireFox?

firefox (or mozilla) is newer, and support more web standards (not msie standards)..
just think when the last major release of msie was ...

anyways ... why is mozilla/firefox better?
it has tabbed browsing, which you can move around with ctrl-pageup and ctrl-pagedown
it gives me less clutter when i'm browsing multiple pages
tons of plugins that you can add or remove anytime you want
more stable -- or even if it's not, it doesn't bring down the whole OS (windows) when it crashes
makes you look more "geeky" ,)
lots of skins to choose from
and a whole lot more

yes, i wanna look geeky ,p

Best thing about tabs is the ability to load all your tech pages at once! Just place a group of bookmarks in a folder together, then scroll down to the bottom of that folder and select "Open in Tabs." Voila! No need to go running back up to reopen pages... the rest of them load while you read the first one! w00t!

Oh and regarding Thunderbird... It works quite well for me. I've been using it since .2(?) or thereabouts, and it has yet to let me down.

tabbed browsing on FF is nice since i only have 512mb of ram to spare... 20 IE windows open at the same time with multiple downloads + emule really clutters up the computer. but some sites just dont work with FF. hope that IEView plugin helps, altho i wouldnt mind occasional usage of IE

Firefox is not related to IE in any way, it's a completely different codebase and as such has none of the problems that IE has and is a much better browser all around.
Yeah and look at the how Firefox works with the CTRL-ENTER and all that. They basically copied IE's ideas even if they coded it differently.

I was going to mention this, but ctrl-tab is still tougher. Small details... but so is the time difference ... I'd rather alt-tab.

Ooooh so some of the keyboard shortcuts are the same, big whoop.

What kind of person would say FF is an extended IE????
IE uses some sort of MS renderer while FF and Mozilla use the very stable and qualified Gecko engine. The Gecko engine is faster in my opinion, and it supports ALL off the features of CSS.

It is open source and I think there have only been a few real security vulnerabilities in the past. But they usually expect you to be using IE anyway.

I may be hypocritical, but I am using IE right now instead of FF because it is ever so slightly faster due to its integration into Windows.

Then you can say IE is an extended mozilla.

I've been using ie for the most of my browsing - I don't always like the way some of the pages look in alternate browsers (I do also have opera installed) I also couldn't get used to not having CTRL+O and typing in the url (opera is F2 and I think mozilla is too) and of course ctrl+tab to swap between tabs.

And this complaint MIGHT be becuase of win98 - but in mozilla after awhile of browsing, something happens and pages stop loading, if I close the browser, and then check with a task manager, there's still a copy in memory, once I close that rogue process its fine, but I remember having this bug in netscape too (which of course is related to mozilla)

Of course a lot of it is really YOUR choice - try out the alternatives, if you like them, you may just stick with them, if you hate it uninstall and either look for something else, or go back to ie, and possibly try the program at a later date to see if whatever you disliked has changed.

Firefox > IE

All I know is, Firefox has never crashed on me, but IE has multiple times. Firefox just feels like a more solid product. Besides, it is open-source, and that's always a good reason to use it because if there's a problem or if you want a new function, you can do it yourself (and share it fo course)!!!

If you think that then I'd say that w2k and WinXP is a extended version of BSD Unix from 1975.

After all they both are capable of networking, they run on computers, they use RAM, both are multiuser OSes and you can use the keyboard with both of them.

Oh, ya.

FireFox and Mozilla were originally based off of Netscape's browser, but since then has been HEAVILY modified. And netscape was around and actually usefull for quite a long time before anybody ever heard of IE.

So in a more accurate, but in a still incredably ignorant line of thought, then IE is a rippoff of Netscape, which means that IE is a inferior copy of Firefox/Mozilla.

No.
More accurately would be to say that both IE & Netscape were ripoffs of NCSA Mosaic, and Mozilla
a ripoff of Netscape.

Mosaic became Netscape, Mozilla ripped from Netscape.

Just try both and use what you like =/

I prefer IE with a few plugins, most notably the Google Toolbar. Always loads pages right. I see people using Firefox complaining about pages not loading right from time to time.

EDIT: And just keep Windows Update set to automatically install updates. People who write spyware/use exploits don't waste their time targeting a browser that not many use. It seems like more people use it since this is a hardware forum, but out of all users the number is small.

i sometimes use the latest version of ff and i like it the scrunched font problem has been fixed to it realy looks the same as ie

Firefox rocks because:
Tabbed browsing+tabbrowser extension = Tabs done right.
Flashblock = no more annoying flash ads
Mouse geastures extension
CSS compliant
Works properly with all PNG images

And it's just generally a very solid browser.

Oh and rh71, you should try to avoid talking about that you have no clue about.

i love tabbed browsing. really gets rid of that taskbar clutter.
lots of extensions like mouse gesture
customizable css filter so you can filter out parts of a website

it's great

Firefox sux because of its memory holes and ie is a nightmare for pop ups. Just go get mozilla. Just thin it out. It is just better in my opinion.

i just discovered a real gem in ff if you right click on those annoying flash/banner adds and choose block images from this server you can then refresh and bingo adds gone no clap to get in the way of your surfing. it felt real good to choose to look at what i wanted. i dislike ie because i feel intruded on by all of the in page spam i get. ever have a script walk across the page and force you to click it to see whats underneath.that p--ses me off somthig feirce.so thats it im setting ff as my default browser. i am still somewhat confused but that one thing did it for me.

edit: isnt it ironic that firefox netscape makes ff for xp? i know that netscape helps develop it. it would be funny if everybody switched and turned of popups and flash that would change things
