Howdy,

IE has stopped working, every time I try to run it an error message appears saying that an error report has been created and asks me to send it to MS.

There is no error code, but this is what I got so far:

Error Signature

AppName: ieexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: syszi32.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000143ce

any ideas as to what has happened? I figure that some file from IE was accidentally deleted and is now not allowing it to run properly.

I tried reloading IE from the WinXP CD, but that did not work. I can not even find MS Internet Explorer in the Add/Remove program in the control panel program.

Is my only alternative to reload WinXP? Is it possible to reload WinXP on top of itself without losing any of the third party data that I already have on the machine?

thanks :)

Boot to the XP CD. Do not use the Recovery Console when it finds the installed OS. I believe you hit enter on that screen. You will get to the "Hit R to do a Recovery Install" screen, THEN hit the R and it will trundle for 30 min. or so and you will have a brand new OS install WITH ALL of you programs, data, etc. still there. Like magic. The only downside is that you will have to download all the updates for WinXP since the CD was pressed. That does take longer than 30 min. But all data and progs are in place. I had to do two of these before I learned what was going on with XP. Saved some important stuff for me that way.:D

As I said, I learned the hard way. Time is always important. I like finding out why in a less dramatic way.
Have fun!
