IE Not Opening

I've got IE 6.0 on WinXP Pro with all the latst updates and patches. However, upon trying to open the browser, nothing happens except for the hourglass appears for a few seconds.

I thought it may be a virus, but Symantec Antivirus says all partitions are clean. I ven double checked to make sure that the shortcut does point to "iexplorer.exe."

Any thoughts as to why this would be happening?

Sorry guys. it was "iexplore.exe"

As a workaround, I've been accesssing the internet on this box using windows explorer since it's integrated with IE. However, after a few clickthroughs, this also crashes or hangs.

Any thoughts?

Sounds to me like you have spyware or a hijack in your IE which is preventing it from opening properly. Run adaware and spybot 1.3. If this fails, try to reset your winsock settings by typing --> "netsh int ip reset C:\log.txt" from a command prompt. C:\log.txt can be any path you want a log of the command written to. Unforunately, IE is integrated into windows xp and cannot be foricbly uninstalled. if the above does not work, try executing "sfc /scannow" to replace any corrupt system files.
