IE locks up loading Anandtech Forums.

I have two different machines that lock up while loading Anandtech forums. If I do a Ctrl+Alt+Del several times, I get a soft boot and a graceful restart. If I push the reset button Disk Doctor runs and some file errors show up during restart. This only happens while loading AF, about half way into it. A second try usually is okay but I have also gotten multiple lock ups. This has never happened with any other page. Has anyone else experienced this?

No prob w/ forums, but the Anandtech homepage cranks my CPU (938MHz) 40%.

With nothing else open, I go to AT homepage & CPU immediately goes to ~40% (cycles up & down).

As soon as I close -> back to 0%.

No other webpages do that to me.

W2K, SP1, IE5.5

I have had no prob's w\ Speednet nor this site..or any other w\ lockups. However, I sent a budy the link to Speednet last night and he said it locks him everytime. If anyone knows whats up..Im interested to here the solution\answer.lol

Sounds like your computer needs a good format. 🙂 A clean machine (even low end) should be able to bring up AF without lockups, assuming it has no hardware problems.

Just curious.. have you tried ending task on Iexplore? Or just ctrl-alt-del until it reboots?

It is a big page, with lots of scripting and tables, but even an old 486 with a fresh install of Win95 (plus an IE update from 2.0/3.0) 🙂 should be good bringing it up.

Have you guys cleaned up those temp internet files / cache lately. You might want to delete your history also. If this still won't work, try the repair option for IE.

My IE works great to those website mentioned above.

I've tried multiple fresh installs. I store no pages or history. When it locks, the only thing that moves is the mouse. You have to give it the three fingered salute multiple time rapidly in succession or nothing happens.

Speedguide.net does it to me too. It does it on any computer I use. I don't have a problem with these forums though.

I think I fixed it with your help. I went back and deleted all the stuff that accumulated before I stopped storing pages and history and now it has been quite a while with no lockups. Besides that it is now a whole lot faster loading. Thanks guys.

If this were a consistent problem then thousands of people would be having these issues. The only things that I have seen that causes these kinds of issues are video drivers, and IE issues. People that blame it on nested tables have little to no knowledge of HTML. It's a shame it's not reproduceable it has never happened to myself or anyone I know.
