IE Automatically Adds ".jpeg" Instead of ".jpg"

When I go to save a jpeg file in IE 6, it automatically adds ".jpeg" to the filename instead of ".jpg". This is an extremely annoying problem that never happened to me when I had Windows ME. Has anyone else experienced this?

Nope. When I right click on a JPEG image, the choices for Save As are: "JPEG (*.jpg)" and "Bitmap (*.bmp)" Do you have the same choices?

Yes, I have the same choices. But on the line where it puts the name of the file you're trying to save, it automatically adds ".jpeg" to the end, even if the name of the file on the website clearly ends with ".jpg".

Just wondering...is it having any negative impact?

Hmm...are there any progs that can see jpg but not jpeg and vice versa...also...which of the two came first?

Please see these links:

Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in the Proper Format
Right-Clicking, Selecting 'Save Picture As' Does Not Save Image with Correct Extension

You may want to try emptying your temporary files, as the article says. And also specifying the extension when you save the image. For example type "picture.jpg" in the save as dialog instead of just "picture"

As a last resort, you can easily rename a folder of images using the command console:

1. Change to the folder of your images. For example:

cd C:\Images

2. Issue this command to rename all JPEG files to JPG:

ren *.jpeg *.jpg
