IE 8's address bar doesn't remember typed URLs

As the title says, since I moved to IE 8, previously typed URLs don't appear in the address bar drop-down menu.

I have fiddled with options and settings and searched on the web and this forum without success.

I also upgraded my parents' computer to IE8, and typed URL still appear in the drop down menu. There is obviously something I have not thought about.

Also, under Internet Options, check your browsing history settings. The listing of past visited URLs is what Browsing History is.

Quite frankly the UI on IE8 just blows. It is craptastic that they cannot give a "classic" view option to make it look like IE6. Even the addons bar is a piece. Microsoft just doesn't seem to get it, with all their new interfaces looking less and less functional. I appreciate Firefox sticking to its legacy look.

Did you check this setting?

Thanks,

I hadn't. I have now checked the Adress Bar Box. This does what I want but enables the auto-complete behavior, which I find annoying.

In IE7, previously typed URLs would appear in the Address Bar drop-down even with auto-complete disabled.

This is a minor point. However, it's hard to understand why Microsoft feels the need to make these kind of behavior changes.

This is your opinion and did you ever stop to think you might be in the minority here? I went and found a pic of the IE6 UI. It's Windows XP style. I'd imagine you're still clinging to the Windows XP era, however most of us have moved on and we like our UIs to change and evolve. Change is good, give it a chance.

You seem awfully touchy about the topic. I run a mixture in my house from XP to Ubuntu and SuSE, and a copy of 7rc. And who cares if I was in the minority around here, the truth is the truth, Microsoft's UI designs are going to shit.

Out of curiosity, what specifically don't you like about IE8's UI? I find it much more customizable than IE6 or IE7.
