IE 8 crashing

when i have 3 or more tabs open and type a search into the search window it locks IE8 forcing me to go to task manager to close it. search works fine with 2 or less tabs open. i am using google as my default search if that matters. this is on vista ultimate 64 bit with service pack 2.
