IE 5 and Win2k

When going to the internet in Win2K using IE5, I get a message saying "Try Offline or "Try Again". I click "Try again" and everything is ok until I reboot. Then I have to go through the whole process again. Any ideas?

what internet connection have you got? Ethernet? If so you'll need to fiddle about with the connection settings in IE.

I had a the same problem with my laptop (running 98SE) because I had a dial up adapter installed and a network adapter installed. It would always default to the dial up, which was not connected, so by hitting try again, it would then try the network connection. I resolved the problem by removing the dial up adapter.

Don't have a dail-up adapter installed. I'm running DSL.

You could try going into Tools->Internet Options->Connections then click setup where it says Use internet connection wizard. It will then detect and set up your internet connection. Hopefully this will fix the problem. There is also the chance that upgrading to IE 5.5 may help too.

I reinstalled Win2K last night and made sure I used the "Internet Wizard". Same issue. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have "Enhanced DSL". I have my own assigned IP address. Could this be causing it?

I know what you mean, heres how I fixed the problem, set Remote Access Connection Manager and Remote Access Auto Connection Manager to Manual. Also DCHP Client to man.

In IE connections tab uncheck Automatic Detect Settings.

goto TCP/IP and manually set your IP and DNS address. Set subnet mask to 255.255.255.0


This is if your ip is static.

Goto My Computer/Control Panel/Adminstrative Tools/Services

Its basically MSConfig for Win2k.

You can stop services at start up etc.

If you have a Static IP address then set the proper settings for your network connection.
In the Network properties set your IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS.

I have all my address set. I have no problem getting on the net. My problem is I have to keep clicking a try again button to connect because it thinks I'm offline.
