IE 5.5 or 6?

I've heard that 6 is crap and I've also heard it's nice (in comparison to 5.5)

I just did a reinstall of Win2k and want to know which I should get. I'm installing some other updates so IE will be a few reboots away...plenty of time for you guys to respond 😉

thanks 😀

I just reinstalled windows and decided to with IE6 instead of 5.5 as I had before. It is almost exactly the same. The best improvement IMHO is the cookie management and that makes it worth the upgrade.

IE 6 has the same spyware as Win XP. Not going on my machine. :|

BTW, Netscape 6.2 is a happening thing. I've always thought graphics, and especially fonts, looked better in NS. I use both, and NS 6.2 loads and runs as fast as IE for me. 🙂

Please explain, what spyware is in IE6?

The only I didn't like about 6 when I first got it was the image resizing thing. I turned it off though, so no worries. 🙂

Yeah, you can turn off most of the new features if you so desire.

Yeah, please do.

enjoying IE6 for the most part here. Found it was giving errors and wanting to report a few times when I first got it installed but all is runnin good now

I went straight from IE5.01 to 6 a few months after a botched upgrade attempt to IE5.5 screwed things up.
So I can't really comment on 5.5, but I've had no problems with 6.

IE6. but this is coming from a guy who prefers the newest of almost everything. i dunno the differences in features off the top of my head so i couldnt give you a 1on1 analysis of each browser.

I don't have ANY problems with IE 5.5. My solution is usually, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."

So I am happily running 5.5 (AND Netscape 6.2) on both my desktop Win98SE and Win2k Laptop with no problems on either.

I'll probably upgrade when I have to (when certain secure websites require it) - by then IE 6.5 will be out. 🙂

A lot of people have been having trouble installing it for some reason. I would stick with the 5.5, and people have been telling my it crashes more. I almost want to think they based it too much on XP, and not their other OS'es.

i'am actually having a lot of trouble with IE 6. the thing keeps crashing everytime i close a window. this message pops up giving me the option to send an error report, etc...

is anyone else having the same problem? any suggestions? i just about had it with IE 6 🙁

My other rule of thumb - especially with regard to M$ - is to look for the upgrades . . . X.1; X.2

It just has been my experience that their X.0 versions are buggy. I refuse to be a Beta tester for them.

IE5.0 wasn't so hot but 5.5 fixed it, for example. In fact, 5.5 is extraordinarily stable.

I think it is unfortunate you can't run both 5.5 and 6.0 at the same time to compare them (can you?) as you can run Netscape 4.6 and 6.2 (I did this for awhile . . . 6.2 has my vote).

What spyware is in IE 6?

Personally, i'm using IE 5.5. IE6 just crashed too often on me... maybe they have SPs that fixed that, but since 5.5 is working just fine for me, i'm sticking to that.

IE6 on Win2K SP2. It works great. I like being able to lock the toolbars at the top. It keeps things "cleaner". 🙂

I agree, also Ie6 is very nice together with win2k...its almost as if you get a little WinXPeRiance 😀
