IE 5.5 is definitely poop.

Previously I've thought so, but it *could* have *possibly* been because my comp was an ass. But on GHz machines w/lots of ram? IE 5.5 is suck, is lag suck!! Ok, so I'm babbling incoherently. I'm sure you still understand me though!

When you scroll on a page, it lags. That should not happen. It doesn't happen in IE5.0/5.01 or 6! In 5.5 it does. So give me one reason that anyone, anyone should use IE 5.5 over any other version 5+? There is none. 5 is even better.

<< Why not just stick with IE6 now that it's out?

Now that it's out, yes, that's a good idea. But when 5.5 was newest, it still would have been better to stick with 5.01. It doesn't matter what computer you have, 5.5 will lag. That's weird and evil.

yes because nimda works through your webbrowser, and not your email program.

Yeppers...

Sorry RSI, I didn't experience the same problem with IE 5.5, yet I do agree that it is poop :p

Yeah, stupid Nimda, I wonder how many dumb system admins are going to get fired for this one....

You're right, I moved from 5.01 SP2 to 5.5 SP1 because I heard 5.5 was less resource-intensive with quicker page loads... well perhaps page loads are quicker but it's certainly using more resources (CPU time) as multi-tasking is more laggy now with IE 5.5 as compared to IE 5.01. And I've heard some really bad things about IE 6 (it's not completely stable yet) so perhaps you should stay away from that too.

Schlong :)P),

Problem? What problem? That's not a "bug", it's a "feature"! Blech. It's not a problem, it is IE 5.5. I think you may have just not noticed it. I've seen the exact same thing on ANY IE 5.5 equipped system, and I've seen tons of them! Show me your computer and I'll be really surprised if it doesn't do the same thing. I don't know how much it matters to others, but on my OWN comp, I want the net to run smoothly. Internet is something disgustingly underpowered systems can handle. So 2GHz systems w/512MB ram and 64MB GF3s should NOT be lagging on anything at all.

I won't consider MS Spyware (aka IE 6). You can turn off that ugly soft scrolling in 5.5. Even then, NS 4.7x looks better on most pages that aren't IE specific, including AT. :) Sadly, bold fonts and a couple of other things don't work in FT 3. Too bad. They used to work right in FT 2. :(

The only reason I haven't tried NS 6.1 (same as latest Mozilla, I think) is because, according to thier own FAQ, a couple of things I would like aren't enabled yet.

RSI, I agree...

Hehe, I probably just didn't notice it because half of the time I was in Mozilla :)
So yeah, it definitely shouldn't be lagging at all....IE6 has been stable for me though, so I guess the upgrade is up to you...

Nothing more that I can say, there is no defense for M$ :p

I haven't heard any bad things. If there are some, they've done a better job at hiding them than with IE 5.5! So yeah, from personal experience I'd rather use 5.01 or 6 than 5.5.

As for Opera and NS. Neither cut it. MS is a monopoly. They've monopolized everything including the internet. Everything is optimized for MS software (Internet Exploder) these days. Sure, if a page is optimized for Netscape it'll look better in Netscape, but everything isn't optimized for Netscape, so most pages look better in IE. I've yet to see a page look 'wrong' in IE. Opera does a pretty good job but I still don't like it as it doesn't have as much support as IE, but it is a very good idea, and I'll definitely keep an eye on it as it progresses.
