Try re-applying Service Pack 1 to W2K...had a situation simular to this at work and that solved the problem...for the time being anyway :)

IE 5.5 is really bad! At home I have 5.01 and I have no problems at all, but they just installed 5.5 for NT in my univerity and the thing is worse than netscape. You can actually see gifs on top of your toolbar (!!) you know where the back/foward/stop buttons are, sometimes it crashes when opening sites using java and so on. Why don't you try 5.01?

Check out the following site,it will give you the proper methode for removing IE5.5 and installing IE5.01 service pack 1.
The site is www.about.com.
Once at the site follow the stated links--computing/techology--down to operating systems select-- focus on windows. At the top of the screen select -recent articles.Down the list you will find--09/21/00 IE5.5 Headaches.Dump It.
Good luck
