Idling with Windows 7/Vista/XP on a old Macbook

I don't have Windows installed on my laptop but I have a question.

Do the fans go crazy a lot when idling on a Macbook? I'm talking about a 1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo. I like to keep my laptop on for the day. In Leopard it's pretty good if I'm not running anything.

I find Vista tends to tax the CPU and GPU harder so the Macbook heats up quickly, thus the fans run louder. It's all those little things that run in the background. It's not a huge issue if it's just idling though. Easily solved by simply putting the computer to sleep when you're not using it.

I don't think that it is the background processes so much as that the fan controls are handled, well, really at all. So, Windows just runs the fans at full tilt, all the time. I guess that Apple didn't do that part when they were righting the Boot Camp drivers.

Vista, by and large, is the worst OS for a laptop that I've ever encountered. I've never seen one get good battery life, there is just too much going on in the background. It's not an issue unique to Macbooks, I assure you.

i had the same problem but with my desktop, it was annoying me seeing the hard drive light go off every 2 seconds but i figured out how to fix it.

you go into services and change the super cache service and indexing to manual instead of auto.

windows 7 is a nice operating system

I ended up buying a refurbished Mac Mini 1.83GHz to run all my Windows needs. I'm excited!

congrats! 🙂

the fans usually kick up extensively if its under heavy load, but ive only seen my mbp do that, as i dont own a mac mini.
