so we put on sweaters and got spray cans and lighters and BLASTED THAT MOTHERFVCKER TO PEICES

What's so idiotic about that? You never did that as a kid with WD-40 or hair spray?
I've known plenty of people who've done it, and none who've ever had anything bad happen as a result.

I used to do that all the time. It's the best method for killing flying insects, IMO. Awesome way to fry those mofo spiders too. Burn mofos, burn.

Seeing how those cans are typically pressurized, and since fire require oxygen to burn, there is no chance of your scenario taking place.

However, if kept on for a long period of time, I suppose the can could get so hot from the flame that it would burst. But aside from that, it's not really a big deal.

I don't think you have to worry about the flame going back into the can... there isn't any oxygen in the can itself. Now a fast buring fuel like gas and a plastic jug, that could be a different story I think.
