I signed a 2 year contract with ATT and my phone unclipped from my belt in Detroit without my knowledge. Its a goner! I only had it 3 months.

I'm not sure what all of my options are to get squared away as cheaply as possible while getting a phone comparable to what I had. I'd like to hear some suggestions

Thanks.

Call AT&T and get phone insurance...do without your phone for a couple of weeks and then call in and say your phone was lost/stolen/whatever.

Of course if you want to be honest.....well...you're screwed!

I think you're pretty much screwed now...if you want to pay very little, the 5160's go for next to nothing these days and should work fine with your plan...

Call ATT and cancel your account. Purchase an Ericsson T68. Proceed to your nearest GSM provider and sign up with them 🙂 No but really....get a new phone and transfer it over. But first off make sure your account is cancled or put on hold or something so someone doesnt pick up your phone and drive up your bill.

Check to see what the costs will be (they can be VERY HIGH)
Heres the options i can think of:
1. Buy a new phone (when i did this with Bellsouth Mobility they wanted $350 for a new one...)
2. Cancel the Contract (that varies alot, since its early in yours, it will prolly be a few hundred)
3. drop the plan to the bare min (sometimes this is cheaper than #2, in your case with such a long time left, it might not be)

Call them first and see what they suggest, they might give you a new phone at the new contract price if you agree to another 2 years from today (not ontop of your old one but instead of)...

Good luck!

I was thinkin that I might be able to sign up for another 2 year plan and get a new phone with it, calling the whole deal an upgrade or sumthin'

Ahhh...maybe. I remember with my phone, you couldn't get a new phone for cheap until a certain period of time had passed...talk to your phone company

<< Can I get a used phone and have it activated with a new number? >>

I'm pretty sure you can...unless your old phone had a card

I second the idea of calling your phone. For every crooked person out there, there's a good person. You never know, maybe one of those good people found your phone and is waiting for you to call it.

Actually most phone companies are relatively smart these days. They will call your phone to activate insurance to make sure its not been stolen already.

If you are willing to put up with Nokia 5160(It's a trimode and I'm pretty sure it'll work with your plan), it can be had for <$45 on eBay.

<< did u try calling your phone to see if anyone picks up? >>

Woah...that's actually an awesome idea

Oh wait...but he deac'd the plan already 🙁

My bother has the same phone as you and it just stop working recently. I called att and they wanted $179 for the phone. They said that if I get a ATT compatible phone, from anywhere you can activate it on your account for free. So I picked up this nokia 5165 from phoneshark.com, it's a prepaid and compatible with att. Att said this phone should work. Oh, yeah, after rebate, this phoneis $-10 (40-50 Mir)dollars. Go to their website for more info on the deal. The 5165 isn't nearly as cool as the 8260 (i have one myself) but it's a cheap alterative
