It seems to me that from the previous posts there has been some qualifiers attached to some drugs.. some are bad for you. I guess we should define what Drugs am.. I suppose we could say anything that the FDA say's is is. But, we ought to confine it to "A chemical substance, such as a narcotic or hallucinogen, that affects the central nervous system, causing changes in behavior and often addiction."
So! We have some 'drugs' that fit that definition that can be beneficial and can be harmfull to the consumer.. but, it ain't the consumer that Society really has a focus on, is it.. it is the collateral damage that drug 'abusers' cause society. We go to the expense of hiring police to catch them, courts to try them, jails to house them, insurance companies to reimburse the victims of their thefts, and from time to time we try to rehabilitate them. And this is just the consumer of illicit 'drugs'. Why not give drugs away free.. we'd put the supplier out of business, eliminate all crimes that occur to pay for the 'drugs' and we could put some of the money into effective treatment regimes.
We are not going to stop the abuser of drugs no more than the abuser of alcohol.. so why try other than extend a helping hand to those seeking help and in fact help..
