One of the stupidest movie I ever seen!

Hehe I think that was the point 😉. I think if anything, it's definitely worth a rent if you're a bit hesitant on buying it. I mean, I never found Office Space laughably funny, but I've always enjoyed watching it and I think I can classify this movie in the same category.

Also, it's got that one guy in it who's in almost every comedy thing I've been watching or thinking about seeing lately. Employee of the Month, Idiocracy, My Name is Earl, Let's Go to Prison and probably more I haven't looked at yet :Q.

So, I watched the movie Idiocracy tonight and it made me wonder... will our world just keep getting dumber?

I mean before, people actually wrote in a real language. Today, people turn papers into their teachers in "Chat Speak", which only has tie-ins to the old stenographer language "Short Hand." Note that they really only share the concept of speeder entry and inability for anyone not learned in the dubious method to decipher the arcane entries.

But there's one thing that may come to our advantage... the savior of earth. Geeks, the geniuses of the world, are actually "cool" now. This may lead to end of the ostracizing of my kind! Women may actually forget the concept of forgoing the geek, just because of his pencil protectors and need for extra-thick lenses. Yet, we have one glaring issue... geeks are being convoluted by the "pretenders." Those that may use a computer... send a couple IMs.. and even be able toe set up a computer by themselves... they think that they are geeks like us! With the dilution of our class of people, we may end up being forced into some unknown stratification of the social aspect.

So, essentially... do you think the Earth is doomed to get dumber?

PS. First person to post "Yes, and this thread just made it worse!" gets a :cookie:!

stupid poll.. didnt even read your post

It will NEVER get as bad as portrayed in Idiocracy.. I mean come on, did you see who the President was? I mean he may be a step-up from Bush, but like I said it would never come to that, the Chinese and Japanese won't let us.

Bumping this thread to the top 'cause I just watched the movie and it made me laugh.

Was it a great movie? Nope.

Was it decent and good for several laughs? Yup.

Why should you watch it? Bottom line, watch it because it's a fairly entertaining movie. But also watch it so it makes enough money to allow Mike Judge to make more movies, movies that are a bit offbeat, a bit different than most, and are hopefully treated better by the Hollywood system than this one and Office Space were.

Watch it because they don't want you to see it. They really tried to bury this movie, no advertising, no trailers, limited release, and then they delayed the DVD till after Christmas.

Another one they probably don't want you to see is This Film Is Not Yet Rated. The MPAA was even caught pirating it.

Congratulations, you shouldn't have even posted then. We can see who's the troll looking to up their post count . Only 1364 more to go!

Believe it or not, since people seem to still lack understanding... I WASN'T BEING SERIOUS. Hopefully the inane amount of mark-up will let you understand that. Do I literally have to put [/sarcasm] or [/joke] after any remark for the trolls to ignore it?

just watched it and I think there may be some truth...

just look at how many people like the slap commercial from the superbowl...

I find the entire premise and concept that the world is becoming perpetually "dumber" to be preposterous at best.

Also, the only popular geeks I know are rich. Their popularity is not due to their geekiness it is due to their wealth.

I do not think in the near future women will look at the geek in the way she now looks at brad pitt.

In conclusion, I think you should ask for your money/time back.

Theres a reason it was buried, it was a horrible movie. The movie has no redeeming value. Its beyond bad. It ranks in my worst 10 movies ever.

Dumber people do seem to have more children than smart people. Smart people are generally more concerned with population control, and the expense of raising children. Dumb people tend to like to give birth in litters, rather than one at a time.

You pretty much summarized the beginning 5 or so minutes of Idiocracy... although they do it in quite the humorous manner. It's a Mike Judge film, so it will get bad reviews and in 5 years, it will be a cult classic (a la Office Space).

Office Space was golden. It was funny. Idiocracy isnt. Its straight up crap. Horrible is an understatement. I want my $2.99 back.

I thought it had a few redeeming gags. mostly in the first 10 minutes.

"the illuminati have always held that the smartest person in the world, regardless of their position, would eventually come to power above all the rest...." from the book of Deus Ex 😉

I found an article about this movie in an old issue of The Wall Street Journal I was thumbing through. I tore out the article to remind me to look up the release date for the movie, and to my surprise I discovered it had already come and gone in theatres without so much as a poster or a preview.
