Friend of mine has a Dell Server she got for free... she's computer illiterate and can't tell me much about it... but it's not working well for her. Windows is fudged up pretty good... so I'm trying to figure out what the hardware is to see if it's worth fixing and adding RAM to, or if it would be better for her to buy a $500 entry level computer.

ANYWAY... Under Computer in System properties, all it says is x86 Compatible, Family 6, Model 3, Stepping 3... what processor is that?

Family 6, Model 3 = Intel Pentium II
I don't know the actual speed (MHz). If there is a Service Tag number on it, you can go to Dell's website and enter the number, to find out some info on the server.

It depends on the model of server. It should be 7 alphanumeric characters.

Judging from the family and model, get her to buy a $500 entry computer.

Have her check the hot deals forums here and @ FW. She might be able to get a sweet system for that kind of money (stressing 'that kind of money'), if not a decent one at the least.
