identify my high pitched sound!

The computer I built is starting to get really loud. It emits a high pitch sound when it's on. I know it's not from any of my fans because when I put my computer on suspend, the sound goes away, and all I hear is a low pitched hum. Could it be from the hard drive? It wasn't making this level of noise before, so I can't imagine why the hard drive would all of a sudden become so loud. (not talking about the sound it makes while seeking, just the sound it makes when idle) The only other parts that I could think of are the CD drives, but they aren't even spinning!

Please help me on this. I'm really sick of this high pitched sound. It was one of the main reasons I got this new computer in the first place!!! ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

sh_t, sorry just did a search and someone suggested it might be the HD. DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any way to move it somewhere more quiet or insulate it? it's very very very disturbing.

there was an article on overclockers.com I guess.... it was called harddisk sandwich or somethin....

ok, now where do i get two thick pieces of aluminum?

Some other guy said it would cost upwards of $50 for the aluminum he needs to build that sandwhich. Not worth it to him (or me ).

I say get a new HD; what brand/model do you have right now? BTW, sometimes power supplies can make noise too. IMO, you should just put your ear to the case and confirm what the real problem is.

i put my ear right next to the computer, with the side case open. it's the HD alright...
I have a maxtor diamondmax 30gb @ 7200 RPM. it's pretty new so i don't feel like getting a new one!
stupid loud ass computer... i wish i had those silent dells...

IMO, its defective if it makes those kinds of noises. My dual IBM 60GXP 20GB 7200RPM drives dont make annoying noises like those you are describing.
