I think the W8 tablets will be the first to actually challenge the laptop in terms of usability. I know my wife is all about getting one and can see the university she works at adopting them for class room and library usage.



Interesting, looks like it might be time to update then.

Why will W8 tablets be any more usable than say an ipad ?

I asked that exact question to my friend this morning. He is excited about having a "full fledged OS" on a tablet. But I still see the same limitations - content creation is difficult on a tablet. Using a "robust" OS like Windows 8 doesn't change the game IMO. The limitation is on the physical side - a light, portable screen to consume content serves a different purpose from content creation and serious multitasking. There's no such thing as a 20" screen that is highly portable with robust graphics and processing speed and low power consumption. You eventually get to a point where the tradeoffs are simply too significant.
