ideas on how to improve wireless signal strengh

I recently ¨created¨ a wireless network for my house. Unfortunately the signal is extremely weak(or no signal) on rooms located only about 20 to 30ft from the router.

In one of the rooms with a laptop there are 2 or 3 concrete/cement walls between the router and the laptop, and there is no signal, is this normal?... maybe the DI524 doesnt send out a strong signal in the first place, should I purchase a new/better router?

Should I position the router´s antenna in some other way?

Ohh in addition the DI524 came with a trial version of ¨Network Magic¨ . DOes anyone knows a (free/cheap) software that would perform the same function(manage ur home network and share a printer)???

Thank you.

edit* I have a desktop connected 24/7, and 2 laptops using 802.11g ...thought it might be important info.

There is an Inherit issues in providing extended coverage for Wireless Network Connection.

It is very hard to impossible to predict ahead what exactly would work in any specific environment.

Professionals that do many installations can predict better if they Actually See the Place because they see many types of environments, and by sheer experience, they know what type of solution would work well in a given environment.

The best solution that always works entails putting few Access Points in key areas and connecting them together with Cat5e wires. It is not very popular among Home users since it involves a combination of Wire and Wireless.

Might be that the info in these pages might help to make a decision.

Thanks a lot, after reading the articles I am going to go with the CAT5 cable and give it a try.

I might have a few questions later, once I buy and attempt to get the thing to work.

Thanks
