Ideas for good songs to cover?

Hi, I play in a jazz group and I'm trying to think of some cover songs to do, thought I'd see if anyone on here had some ideas.

I am mostly interested in doing jazz arrangements of popular songs, we already know lots of standards.

For example I arranged:

Karma Police - Radiohead
and
Fell in love with a Girl - White Stripes

and they turned out pretty good.

SUGGESTIONS SO FAR:
Mogwai - Yes! I am a Long Way From Home
"Staring Through The Eyes Of The Dead" or "Vomit the Soul" by Cannibal Corpse
Squeeze - "When the Hangover Strikes"
Richard Thompson - "Al Bowly's in Heaven", "I've Got No Right to Have it All"
Chris Whitley - "Silhouette"
Something Classical

how about "Staring Through The Eyes Of The Dead" or "Vomit the Soul" by Cannibal Corpse? they are both beautiful songs; the former is a soliloquy in iambic pentameter about the pain of growing from a boy into a man, and the latter is a haiku about how much it hurts to steal. i think you will have no problem in doing arrangements of them! 🙂

I really like the sound of a saxophone playing classical music. It's not all that popular, but it's got a good sound.

I just hate transposing it.

What do you play?

I dunno. It might be interesting to do a jazz version of some popular classics. Change it to a string rythm, give the violin part to the sax.... Could work.

already jazzy (and good):

Squeeze - "When the Hangover Strikes"
Richard Thompson - "Al Bowly's in Heaven", "I've Got No Right to Have it All"
Chris Whitley - "Silhouette"
