Ideas for a teenage summer job??

Anyone have some good ideas for a good summer job for a 17 year old?
Ive tried calling many companies like Nortel, Cisco, EDS, lucient, etc in my area for internships but due to economy they are cutting way back on them. I don't really like dealing with the general public in mass numbers(b/c i worked in a movie theater last year and i couldn't deal with the complete idiots there constantly).

No summer jobs are fun. Do live near a theme park? If so you try to work there, yes I know an enormous amount of people but its the perks that overweigh the downs of the job.

i live in plano tx
near 6 flags but its kinda unpractical to drive there and its hot as a muthaFSKER out here

the only other job i would like to do besides something with computers is learning how to mod cars

UROP?
id love to learn how to repair/mod cars
ive already checked out one local modding shop and doesn't look like they are doing internships or anything

Not exactly modding cars but mechanic's shops are looking for people all the time. It's worth a shot to go and ask them.

thanks but in a job like that would i be able to learn how to install my own turbo?

cuz i hear its hella expensive if u wanna install ur own and getting a job at a mod shop would be an easy way to cut back on that cost and have a fun time learning about cars

chiwawa- ive tried...i also tried some of the smaller comp repair places in the area but no dice

although one of my friends repairs computers for his dad's company and he hasn't given me a definite answer if i could come work with him....

vip - good idea but im not sure which companies to do tech support at

i might be able to get a tech job at UT south western medical center fixing computers and upgrading....maybe

By tech support I mean phone support - ISP's are a good place to start. I started here full time at 17, making $22,000 a year. I should top $30,000 this year, & I just turned 19.

Not wonderful pay, but certainly liveable. I figure I can ride this job through until the economoy improves again.

Viper GTS

I started tech support over the phone for a local ISP at the age of 15. I love it. Where else can you get paid to sit behind 3 T1's and listen to music?

not that bad at all. Usually durring the day I will take about 3 calls an hour, but after five its dead. I have not had a call in 2 hours!

Try for a government job or a job with a utility company. I've had lots of friend work for the phone company and power companies. Not in retail sales, mind you, but in the back doing customer support over the phone, doing checkups on people's service, etc. It pays well (its the GOVERNMENT, after all), and usually if you do a good job they'll pick you up next year also.

well my dad works for the EPA in dallas fixing idiot problems doing lotus programing and the webpage for our region.....hmmm maybe i could help go do that stuff =)
