I'm thinking of building a server which I can access at work and play the MP3 files on my main computer at home. Any ideas on what I software I should use? Thanks :)

A very nifty way to share music and general files is to set up a samba server. Any old computer will do, running a 'nix. All it needs is a big enough drive for all your files, or multiple smaller drives.
This is very secure, because it does not involve sharing anything on your xp boxes. Another nice feature is the ability to use SSH and SFTP to access those files while you are away from home.
Check the faq's, there is a nice bit in there about samba.

Ive tried using netjuke, but keep having some probs with id tags. On some files, it simply refuses to read the tag..no matter what version. It insists on assigning N/A for the title and Genre no matter what i use to edit the tag...maybe someone has an idea on this?

Sure what would you like to know?

the netjuke itself has an installer just make sure you have already created the Mysql user and dbase. as far as i remeber thats all it asks for. Along with the location of your mp3s of course ;)

if your stuck on sommit specific let me know and ill try and help.

You know, this is unbeliveable, I finished installing "Everything"on redhat linux 9, but redhat does not recoqnize my linksys nic. Network setting recognize my nic as "Dec 21 40 and clones" status is on, but the light on the nic is off. :(
I installed redhat8 on one of our old laptop a while ago with linksys pcmcia card and it work just fine.
How do yo install driver/hardware on linux especially nic card ?

another vote for andromeda, worked excellent, and you can use it for all types of files, not just mp3z
