Audi=VW

VW=crap

I guess if you are so hell bent on this you might as well just buy the fvcking audi and save us all the trouble of arguing with your dumbass though.

what kind of car do you own? and why does VW = crap? I enjoy mine very much and will probably buy another when the MKV GTI gets here. No car is perfect and I still appreciate other cars but I just like the way my VW feels.

If you don't want BMW or Audi, you are pretty much screwed. The 5 speed requirement kills most of your options.

Only other options I can think of would be a Volvo S60-R

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/volvo/s...n.researchlanding.leftsidenav..7.Volvo*

S60R is nice... just not as fast as it's segment. I destroyed some poor sob in his brand new S60R and he had a completely dumbfounded look on his face as I pulled away. It's definitely not as fast as an E46 M3 or C55 AMG.

There's also the Jag X-Type Sport with AWD. No turbo though and at least not totally gutless. And you think again since you're buying a hotted up Ford Mondeo... all the drawbacks and advantages that come with that I guess.

There's also the new MB C350, it's a tad more powerful than the XType but the problem is getting 4matic and manual don't mix. I'm curious as to the aversion to adding snow tires to your RWD vehicle? Its far cheaper and safer with today's stability control systems than most AWDs with marginal all-season tires.

Isn't the Mazdaspeed 6 coming with AWD? That's not exactly luxury though.

don't understand why you need AWD and manual the two appear to be mutually exclusive except to subaru

the only car i can' think of not mentioned is the mazdaspeed 6 but that is hardly luxury either

my aunt has the same problem ... she has an A6 right now I believe ... but is looking for something new ...

The new Saab 92x is AWD and comes in manual. But it's really just a rebadged subaru right?

Two different species.

Quite true, but both species are overbloated and handle like crap. I don't fancy driving either a whale or an elephant on the road. 😛

The 9-2X is a rebadged suburu. All same parts. However, it's a WAGON and the OP was specifically looking for a sedan.

Ahh, car for showing to the bosses during lunch, yet having fun to drive, and be practical.

S4, or IS300 (Altezza). I know those come in manual, but not sure about AWD. Probably this year.

all S4's have quattro AWD

What crawled up your @ss and died? Did I offend you because you have a Subaru and I said I didn't want to buy a Subaru? Sheesh. Aren't people entitled to their preferences?

I don't know what is out there or is coming down the pike beyond a few models I looked at which is why I'm asking.

And yes, I agree that VW=Crap.

Well, your choices are pretty limited, you've shot down pretty much every option people have given you so why did you bother asking the question? Seems like you know what you want already.

I didn't mean to come off as angry. Sorry if I offended you.

I was looking for a nice sports car for a bit, found the one I wanted for the price I wanted but it's RWD. I prefer RWD over AWD however, if AWD is a must I would go with the Suburu Impreza WRX STI (which is the limited edition). It has just as many creature comforts on the inside and out, and looks better then the G35 in my opinion all around. Not to mention has more power and better handling.

Those saying the Legacy are messed up though. I did not like test driving the Legacy GT at all.

Realisically I suggest going to test drive an Audi S4 and then the Suburu IMPREZA WRX STI and decide for yourself which you like better.

STi is fast as hell and corners and brakes like nothing I've ever driven but it is very stifly sprung and fairly unrefined as far as road noise and ride quality is concerned. Not for everyone that's for sure. I love it though!

I've driven the Legacy GT and it is not quite up to what I would call entry level luxury. It's a really nice car with plenty of power but Subaru just needs to step it up a notch or two in the luxury department IMO.

If you can stretch the budget to 47k or so you might be able to find some leftover 2005 S4s new (the B6 one, before the new grill was added)
I was at an audi dealership last weekend, and was offered the last one they had for $46,900.

From my experience VW and Audi quality cannot be compared, and that's why I'll probably be picking up a new S4 in a couple weeks.

Audi/VW owners on reliability of their brand.
