The expensive ram will make tiny difference running your conroe in general applications and gaming and running at default speeds. Its a big waste of money. Your a mug. If you plan to overclock the conroe then all you need is some excellent ddr2 667 that will overclock greatly or some quality ddr2 800. Your best overclock will come running the memory at the speed of the fsb in 1:1 mode so it be a waste of money to buy memory with tight timings. So good quality ddr2 800 at cas5 is ideal. My memory can run at 900 so that ideal for 450 fsb. Great speed. Great price. Plough that money into a better part.

I agree up to a certain point. I don't think anyone has to go buy that ultra expensive memory with tight timing. Way to expensive. Like someone shouldn't go out and spend $350 on memory. You just are not going to see that much of a difference but you shouldn't go out and buy ultra cheap memory which you won't be able to OC. I really don't care that much about timing but i do care about OCability. I currently have OCZ Plantinum XTC DDR2-800. I have decided to get rid of it and get a little bit better memory here:

You also have to worry about compatability problems. Since core2 p965 is so new there are a lot of memory incompatabilites and a lot of people are having problem. You need to make sure you don't buy memory thats going to cause you problems.

I have bult my system so nothing will limit my OC. OCZ 700w psu, scythe ninja, gigabyte ds3. Id like to get 3.4 out of the e6400. Wish me luck.

I have the memory you linked to ncage, running great now at 4-4-4-12 450MHz 2.1V with a DS3 at 3.44GHz ... i'm sure it can go higher.

G Skill has incompatibilities with some of it's memory and the DS3, not just because of the voltage limitations inherent with the earlier BIOSs. The HZ doesn't suffer from these same incompatibilities and will boot out of the box with BIOSs later than F2, most of the boards shipping now have these later BIOSs.

As a whole though memory choice is more dependent on the board you have than the chip so, in my opinion, you'd be better off choosing a mobo and then picking memory to go with that, and no, you don't need the ultra high end stuff.
