i just purchased a new rig and have a prescott 3.0 cpu in. im already using a zalman heatsink, the big flower one, but cant seem to get my temps sub 60 degrees C. im more concerned with building a quiet system, but my case only supports 80mm fans. how should i best go about doing this?

thanks

jonathan

What board is it? Some read high, some low but 60c idle? if close to accurate is not good that's for certain. I don't know that I would have based my quiet PC build off of a CPU many have dubbed Presshot either, but that's neither here nor there :)

All I got from a quick Google search was one other user complaining the temp reading was way high. A good test would be to run P95TT or CPUburn and use CPU-z to see if clock throttling kicks in or not. If it reaches mid 70's c and/or goes all night without clock throttling I'd say the board is just reading high and don't pay it much mind. You could try Speedfan to check temps too and see if it differs from what you get now.

Edit: you posted while I was responding, I'd trust MBM but do the stress test anyhow ;)

i busted out a laser temp reader and it shows a cooler temp then what the motherboard bios says. so i guess its safe to assume that the tempreture reading was just false in the bios. thanks for the help

I wasn't much help but you are welcome anywho :) BTW, what did you pay for the temp reader? I could use one myself if they can be had on the cheap from a reputable vendor.
