These 2 thoughts popped into my head in quick succession:
There are a LOT of lazy people out there willing to purchase term papers on the internet.
There are a LOT of students who pop into chat sites for "help" when they mean "do my homework for me"

The logical thought that followed was: sell homework help on ebay! Do it as a "buy it now" type of auction. "math homework completed, starting bid $5.99, buy it now $5.99" And, I'd do one night's worth of math homework :D

All they'd have to do is scan the homework, send it to me via email, I'd do the problems, scan it, send it back.

If Red can sell his wife's flip flops for $25...

it may be unethical, but what the heck, why not! There are tons of sites making money selling term papers.

you'd havbe to limit the length of the assignment. If I'd have sent you some of our Engineering Physics 2 homework, you'd have sh!t yourself. $5.99 won't cover that!

Of course I can guarantee an A.

If I limit it to math up to Calculus, then I can finish the problems in no time.
Heck, with all the free teacher's editions I get to persuade me to persuade the school to go with publisher X, I probably have the answer keys for a good hunk of the problems. Then again, it'd take me more time to search for an answer key than to just do the problems myself - ditto at school - I rarely use the answer keys.

Yes.

I have students who have special classes where they're supposed to get extra help. Sometimes, that apparently means another teacher does the homework, thinks the student is listening during the explanation, and the student just copies it.

Don't you have some sort of implied ethical restraint barring you from doing this?

So, what if one of your students subscribed to your little scheme & you found out about it?

Since you seem to be an upstanding moral & ethical individual, you would do the right thing and make it hush, hush........... Right?

:p

You're kinda weird. ;)

Wow, I should really plan time for this in the fall.

"Parents, is your child having trouble in math? You can't help them because all this stuff is "new"? Well, I'm here to help. For $5.99 I'll provide the answers, WITH the work to arrive at those answers for one night's worth of homework. You can use it to help check your son or daughter's own work."

Nah, I was just thinking... I should toss most of my morals aside. Go for it. Be like everyone else :)

Oh, and I wouldn't have any problem dealing with students of mine who cheat on homework. I do it all the time. It's called a quiz. It's amusing when I cross out "homework" and replace it with "quiz" on the top of a handout. I don't even see there being much of a market among my students. They either do their homework and see how it results in better achievement, or they don't care about their level of achievement and don't do it at all. Hence the "hey parents" angle on this.

I can see it now, teacher is fired for selling answers on Ebay.

Nice morals by the way, if you were to happen to be a teacher in one of my boy's classes, I would make damn sure that the school system would know about it.

(I'm sure you are going to fire back at me with some lame excuse, go ahead, you are still morally and ethically wrong)

Why don't you just sell the answer keys?

Offer to scan pages from the answer key and sell those. List the keys you have and people can tell you what problems they want answers to.

Without credentials, I wonder if anyone would accept your "handwritten" answers. They will naively trust the answer keys, though... and if it's wrong, it's not your fault.

Absolutely. I'd have a major problem with that, myself. In fact, this makes a good case for my wife's argument of homeschooling.

I stated it was ethically wrong in the 3rd post in this thread :) I know that!

also
selling the answer keys would be a clear copyright violation.

btw, how does this differ from giving the answer step by step in some forum or chat site when a student says he doesn't know how to do the problem?

I dont see many younger people that would use this being on ebay in a position to pay you the money. Seriously, how many like 13 year olds have a paypal account?
