iv had this idea for some time now i was wondering what would it entail

other than alot of memory.

is it do able??

You can run Knoppix from a ramdisk without any hacks, provided you have more than 700M memory. Since Knoppix also has the ability to save user settings and such to another device (i.e. floppy, USB stick, etc) you can keep your settings across a reboot.

how would you reboot and not loose the data on the ramdisk?

i thought of that, there is a ramdrive card that has a ac plug to keep the contents

also the randisk program im using can save the ramdisk into a img file, but that will be a

huge img file

Do you have any idea how expensive that would be? You would need atleast 2G memory on that card for a XP installation and you'd still end up loading half of your programs and games from a hard disk.
