Idea: Photo album of the Computers of TeAm AnandTech! *Confirmed. Now we need name ideas for the site!*

Hello all,

While reading through the thread about NWM's basement and seeing all the requests for pics, an idea came to me.

Why not start an online photo album of the computers of TeAm AnandTech? Every member would post a picture or pictures of your computers (or computer) crunching for a TA DC project. I think this would be a great recruitment tool when people can see the computing power we have working for us.

What does everyone think about this? Of course we'd need someone to host, someone to admin the page, and some sort of interface to let users post pictures of their rigs. Unfortunately I'm not able to do any of those

So, any suggestions, ideas, or volunteers?

EDIT: Ok, this is moving along right fast. Evadman has gererously offered to host the pictures. We will be making a new domain, so we need name ideas. Let's get some names posted here and then I'll create a poll so everyone can vote. Thanks again!!

I would be happy to host and build the site. I just noticed that one of my machines ( the one that serves as a DHCP and internet connection sharing system for my internal computers ) has started randomly dropping the connection to the outside world. I have decided to rebuild it with some parts I have lying around, along with a mainboard that I have to order from Newegg.

Currently, it is a AMD k6/2 -300 running Win ME. Anyone know what the current reccord is for running win Me without a reboot? It has been over a year at least Anyone know how to look it up?

So anyway, I will rebuild it next weekend as a 1600+ system. I will make sure to toss in a raid controller so I can host a site from it.

All I need are pictures, descriptions, and names. I will do the rest. Just e-mail the pics to me in the address in my profile, or you may PM me with a link.

The computer it is on is like 6' fron the floor, so a reset is a pain I think the last time it went down was when I instaleld the UPS sometime around june-july of last year.

Win ME? A year? I think my record was maybe 2 days. That OS was definately the worst MS has made in my time. You must have a magic touch or something.

Yes, we need both a name for the site and a web address we can register for the domain. I guess they don't have to be the same, but it would be nice.

So make sure your ideas for names aren't already registered domains please!

Tuxtime Please set it up and let us know about it. You can also upload the uptime too. I am sure you will be near the top if not at it

*eek* That IS the record... although I think I remember one guy (computer journalist or something like that) who hasn't reinstalled his Windows... I think he still uses 95, and since 95... and he still uses it as his main machine.
Maybe you can check how long the network connection is up. At least thats the way I check on my XP box.

About the site... great idea, but why don't at least leave the URL at teamanandtech.com? Maybe... sexyrigs.teamanandtech.com or sexychicks.teamanandtech.com? And make it a paysite... you pay with workunits I will submit my photos if I can (get them into PC)

Nice....simple....and I'm sure someone could come up with an acronym for it!

Maybe there could also be a section where we can input the basics of our computer systems like the processor speed which can put it all onto one page or of the like. Would be nice to see how much processing power each person has under their control and what the systems are like. It would only need to be the basics too. I think some other teams do it to a certain extent, I think S@NL was one of them.

edit: maybe I could get a photo of each of the computer rooms at college which I have assimilated.
