I've got an idea that IMO should become a sticky and would help people deciding on what cpu/video cards to buy based on the games they want to play.

Within the sticky would be a list of popular games....whether they are optimized for dual or quad core, if they favor ATI/Nvidia, and how well the scale in SLI/Crossfire.

I figure this will make gfx card and cpu decisions easier

I'll start it off:

Game Name:
Favors ATI/Nvidia-
Favors Dual/Quad Core-
SLI/Crossfire Performance-

Company Of Heroes/Company Of Heroes Opposing Fronts:
ATI/Nvidia- either
Dual/Quad- Quad
SLI/Crossfire- both perform good

World In Conflict:
ATI/Nvidia- either
Dual/Quad- ????
SLI/Crossfire- both perform good

Crysis:
ATI/Nvidia- Nvidia
Dual/Quad- Dual
SLI/Crossfire- neither scale well, but do increase fps

Devil May Cry 4:
ATI/Nvidia- ATI
Dual/Quad- Quad
SLI/Crossfire- both do well, but crossfire gains much more then SLI

Enemy Territory Quake Wars:
ATI/Nvidia- ATI
Dual/Quad- Quad
SLI/Crossfire- SLI doesn't do much, but Crossfire does very well

FEAR series:
ATI/Nvidia- either
Dual/Quad- Dual
SLI/Crossfire- both perform well

Supreme Commander:
ATI/Nvidia- either
Dual/Quad- neither
SLI/Crossfire- both do well

Unreal Tournament 3:
ATI/Nvidia- Nvidia
Dual/Quad- Quad
SLI/Crossfire- both do well, but Crossfire is better

PLEASE ADD MORE GAMES IF YOU HAVE SOME INFO

I thought about that, but when I look to upgrade for gaming I always turn to the video card/graphics section to check out the latest cards, possible bottleknecks, and gaming performance

What happens when the drivers change and the conclusions change

If I had access to every game and multiple cards/systems to do a test using the same speed CPU and memory configuration I would test myself. It would be too difficult for a single person to keep up though.

Tons of popular websites already test graphics cards in today's popular games against one another. The dual core vs. quad core would be a lot more interesting though. Also it'd be nice to see how c2d scales from 1mb-6mb cache (while overclocked ;)).

It's an interesting idea and if you want to make a thread about that in PC Gaming or General Hardware go ahead. It's not related enough to Video to keep it here, and in either case it's not something I'd consider appropriate for a sticky.
