IDE to SATA?

I want to ghost my complete 80gb IDE hard drive to my new SATA hard drive. I don't want to reinstall windows, so is it possible to do this. LMK, thanks

I was in the same situation a couple weeks ago. I got the SATA drivers installed in WinXP on my old IDE hard drive before ghosting. Then I used Ghost 2003 to copy to the new SATA hard drive. Windows on the SATA would start booting and then just hang right before the welcome screen. It wasn't totally froze as the mouse would still respond, but it wouldn't go any further. I could never get past that point and ended up having to reinstall Windows.

Maybe someone else had better luck and will have some info.

Ok thanks. I think I'll just have to reinstall windows(should be faster install with SATA) and start over. You think I could keep windows on my 80gb IDE with all my files and stuff, load fresh install of Windows on SATA, transfer all programs and files to SATA from IDE and just format 80gb making my SATA my main and only drive?

Yeah you can do that. After you install Windows on the SATA you may have to change your boot order in the BIOS to keep your old Windows install from booting.

All you have to do is boot with the bootable CD created by TrueImage 8, and use the clone function. Windows does not get involved. It creates a bit-by-bit copy of your source HDD to your SATA drive. Then replace the old IDE drive with the SATA drive and boot your computer. It works every time.

I don't know if Ghost can do this - but TI sure can.

The MaxBlast install disk copied the entire IDE drive to my new SATA drive. No problems at all. Thanks for all the help.
