IDE to sata converter thing

Are those IDE-Sata converters reliable and problem free?
I'm thinking of using it for one of my IDE harddisks to sata port since I prefer the thinner sata cable.

Anyone had problems with them in win2k/xp?

your still only going to get IDE speed...in other words they work but why not just save for a bit and get a new SATA drive? a complete waste of $$$ imho

I said I wanted to use sata cables because they were thinner.
I know sata and ide have similar speeds and one is not faster than the other because both are limited by internal harddisk transfer rates in normal harddisks like the ones I'm using.

Most SATA drives aren't any faster than their (same generation) IDE counterparts. You won't notice any significant drop in speed from using an adapter. Go for it.

The converters are for Hard Drives Only. Many SATA controllers can't deal with opticals and other ATAPI drives. However, if you have one of the SATA controllers than CAN deal with opticals, it might work - check the adapter's specs carefully.

I got 2 for my slave IDE drives. My main is SATA. It works in that configuration. Actually, I like the smaller wire connections instead of the wide ribbons.
