IDE switch by ROMTEC

I have been using this switch for a while and I just love it!
I wanted to let you guys know how simple it is to have multiple OS running on the same computer... Forget about partitions... It works but it can be just a pain in the A**...

I am using 3 different OSs now...

Windows 2000 Professional
RedHat 7.0
Windows ME

I just need to press a button on the switch before I turn on the computer and that is all it takes.... no need to choose the OS after POST... And it is safe too~ even if you press the buttons on the switch while you are using computer, it won't change the HD and won't crash or anything...

I am not a sales rep for this company... but I think many of us can benefit from this kind of product...

ROMTEC website

Oh!!1 it support ata66 AND ata100
Whatelse can we ask more???

That's still pretty cool.

But unfortunately I don't have any spare drives.
I'll have to take the poor mans way and go Partition hehe 🙂

On a related note... you can hook up a switch to the disable spin-up jumpers for more flexibility. The formatting and master/slave and postiion on the cable will limit the usefulness but it is good for a secondary storage drive that you do not always want running and if you don't need a removeable caddy. And stuff.

yeah that thing looks pretty cool, saw it on a sales magazine somewhere, think it was tigerdirect. but i don't really see much use for it, you can just have multiple partitions... the only plus for that thing is ease of use i guess. maybe i will try one too.

WOW This thing looks great. I really want one. My only concern is space. Did you buy one of these things? If so I cannot immagine the mess inside a regular sized case. I really dont think it will fit. Or can it? I have my doubts. I am guessing you have a full sized case right?

Anyone know what the price is on the internal?? Where do you get it cheap?

thanx

Uh, one other thing wasn't very clear on the site.... can you still use your ide0 slave drive? i saw on their diagram that there wasn't a "hookup" for the slave.... Hmmm maybe not so good.

they gave a fairly vague explaination in their faq on the site. ??????????????
