IDE Setup

I have 4 IDE devices (in addition to my OS 40GB Raid0/Promise Fasttrack setup)

Maxtor 160GB HD
Maxtor 120GB HD
LiteOn DVD Drive
Sony DVD+-R/W Drive

Always wondered which way I should have them setup regarding Master/Slave and channels? Should optical drives always be slaves?

when i had 4 IDE drives a 2 DVD drives i had the Opticals on 1 cable, and the hard drives on another. It really doesn't matter how you set it up as long as your jumpers are in the correct positions

Consult the manual for each drive to see which works best. Sometimes drives may not work unless you have it on a certain setting
