How can setup IDE RAID? I get a old Nforce2 chipset Socket A w/ promise RAID chip. I'm trying to setup my RAID 0 w/ 2 x 160gb IDE HD. Do i need set jumper one drive in matter mode and another drive in slave? Some how, RAid setup can't detect the drive?

whats the point, only one device per IDE channel can send or receive data so you wouldn't get any benefit from RAID0. So unless the controller has more than 1 IDE channel (not connector) you're wasting time. Or if you're trying to setup RAID0 and it's not seeing the 2nd drive could be because it's trying to send data to both and they're on the same channel and only one is able to respond before the raid controller times out, in a sense.

As far as the master/slave question, yes you should alway set one drive to master and one to slave. The primary drive, or boot drive, should be master. I think the default is cable select(bases master/slave off where the drive is on the IDE cable) but this doesn't always work.

I believe that all PCI IDE RAID adapters have two channels (two IDE connectors). Standard practice for a two-drive RAID array is to hook up one drive to Channel 1 and the second drive to Channel 2. I have no idea how many IDE channels are available on the OP's motherboard RAID controller.

I don't see what are you trying to say.. My motherboard has three IDE connector. IDE 1 & 2 are regular IDE connector and able to hookup 4 HDs. The 3rd IDE connector is for IDE RAID and can hookup 2 HDs as RAID 0.

My RAID MB has 3rd IDE channel which can hookup 2 hds in single IDE cable and run as RAID 0. I tried before about 4yrs ago. Can remember how to setup again. need instruction how to find in the google.

ok, as long as it's got more than one channel raid0 would work. I know some cheap motherboards have raid controllers but only one ide channel this helps for redundancy but not for speed as data can only be sent to one place and in one direction at a time with IDE. It should be as simple as turning the raid controller on in BIOS and setting it to RAID0 or at least this has been my experience with on-board raid controllers. I would suggest googling "motherboard manufacturer/model number raid0" should give you a good starting point at least.
