IDE RAID arrays--master only on each channel or master and slave?

It's been proposed that I can have a slave drive that IS NOT part of the RAID 0 array, as a slave drive (storage) on the same cable as a drive THAT IS part of the array.

Is this possible? What are the possible implications of doing this?

But having the raid array on seperate channels is a better thing to do. One, each drive can be written/read from at the same time instead of waiting for one to finish.
