Instead of buying a new sata drive, I was thinking about using an PATA to SATA adapter like the one seen here. Has anyone ever used a device like this and care to make a comment? Does it work well? any problem or special setups with the mobo/bios? Will the interphase require me to reformat the drive or can I just plug and play? and lastly, why do these products vary on price.....the range is from $14 to $35; what's the difference?

I used one... The Abit Serillel adapter.

I HATED IT. The thing hangs off the back of a hard drive loosely, and if you so much as breathe on the computer, the thing will get loose enough that it crashes your system.

If you want SATA, just get a SATA drive.

HTH.

so besides the physical problems with that adapter, did it work properly when it stayed on?

I have som. They work fine.

I too had a loose connector. I solved the problem by getting rid of the plastic casing of the product and putting some electrical tape on it.
