Ok, i know that the SCSI interface is faster and better, but is it worth the extra hundred bucks or so to buy the plextor SCSI over the IDE? Just how much faster is it? I will probably only burn around 5-6 cd's a week, so unless the SCSI is signifcantly faster, i just can't see paying $275 for it when i can get the IDE for under $200.

For your situation, IDE will suit you fine. SCSI is more suited for the corporate class or extreme pc hardware enthusiasts IMHO.

You'd probably be better off getting the IDE version. The scsi drive is awesome though. BTW I have one of the scsi ones. You can get the bare scsi drive for only $255 w/free shipping though. It's for $255 at Hypermicro and the free shipping deal is listed here.

I have an Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI card with a Plextor 12/4/32S CDRW plus an IBM 4.3GB UWSCSI HD that I use only for mastering/burning CD's. The OS and apps/games are installed on an IBM 75GXP IDE drive.
I wouldn't trade the stability of burning from a SCSI HD to a SCSI CDRW for anything, however for anything else you can't beat the storage/$$$ ratio on IDE harddrives.

a x12 ide should be just as fast as x12 scsi if not running any other programs in background! for multi tasking you can't beat scsi though you have to incur a higher financial cost than a similiar speed ide drive.

This Thread from last week goes over the SCSI vs IDE Burner issue completely, I'm sure it will answer your question. It even deals with the same model(s) you are looking at I believe.
