IDE or SATA?

Hi,

I just got a WD 500 gb SATA drive. Before that I was using a 40gb ide maxtor diamondmax because I dropped my 80 gb ide wd. I would like to know if it would be better for me to use the 40gb for my OS to boot from and just use the 500 gb as storage.

I believe this would be a no brainer if they were both SATA I guess.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Use your new 500GB HDD for everything - reason for this is that your 40GB IDE HDD is much much slower.

Regardless what interface the drives are the 500GB would be a better choice.

Partition off the first 40GBs of the 500 drive and use that as your C: and the rest of the drive as storage.
You could then use the Maxtor as a backup drive with a cloned image from your C;

You're better off with a SATA as a primary. The IDE is a bit slower and you'll want to use it for storage as you don't need to access it all the time.
