IDE Master and Slave performance difference?

If I only have 1 device(a WD1200JB 120GB HDD) on my primary IDE channel, does it matter if its set to Master or Slave? Will setting it to Slave reduce its performance at all?

The problem I have is that the WD1200JB must be set to CS(Cable Select) since its the only device on the channel. Setting it to MS or SL will not work. It will not boot. However, I'm using a long 2 device IDE cable, and I wish to use the middle connector for my HDD and tuck the other end in to make things neater and hopefully improve airflow a bit as well. Since connecting the middle connector to the HDD will set it to SL mode when the HDD is set to CS, I'm therefore asking this question...

WD hard drives have two master settings. One is master with slave one is master without a slave. Without a slave just take out the jumper and it will work fine. Make sure the end of hte ide cable is connected to the HD not the middle.

Is there any way I can connect it to the middle rather than the end?

I have my cables folded like this, /\/\/\/\ and use cable ties to bind it into a neat bundle.
Okay...I'm too cheap to buy rounded cables. ;p
Cleans up the look and increases air flow around them.

Well, I DO have round cables, but I overestimated the length from the HDD to the connector, so I don't really wanna have excess cable running all over the case. Right now I have my HDD set to slave and the middle connector is used. I just need to know if this is detrimental to performance? If its the same as MS setting then I'm all set.

I have 2 WD harddrives. Both are set to cable select. I unplugged one (the master) which was on the end IDE connector. The second drive worked fine and was still connected to the middle connector on the IDE cable. Set the drive to CS and you should be fine. If the computer doesn't boot up, all you have to do is plug the end of the IDE cable into it instead, it' not like the whole thing will stop ever working again.

Yeah I know it'll WORK, its working right now as I type this. What I was asking was that is there any performance difference between setting it to SL and MS?

Why not get SiSoft Sandra and do some benchmarks with different setups? That should help find out if there is any difference.
