IDE HD's: Cable Select vs. Master/Slave

Just curious. I've always been a Master/Slave type of person myself.

Any benefit of one vs. the other, other than maybe the idiot-proof solution?

Idiot proof solution in most cases. Unless your motherboard can't handle it properly, can't really screw it up using Cable Select.

And you won't have the issue of accidentally leaving a Western Digital as Master, and have a 30 second boot up pause.

Note: I didn't say it was better, except idiot proof.

Never had much of a use for cable select.... kinda been afraid to use it.... never quite sure if it was going to work.

Plus I always liked to make stuff appear in a certain order on the BIOS screen (silly, I know)

Cable select mainly cause I have alot of WD drives and it's a pain to have to change the jumpers everytime I put my removable HDD in or out.

I use cable select almost all the time now as you avoid most of the M/S hassles (like the WD and some brands not liking to be master or slave to some other brand. All the 80-wire cables are supposed to be made for C/S operation - that wasn't the case with the old 40-wire cables.
