IDE HDD will not read in new PC..

Ok here is what I have:

An old IDE33 10GB 5400RPM IDE Hard drive.
A new(er) Asus A7V motherboard.

I've got the drive to recognize itself in the bios / POST screen. It recognizes my HDD and my CD-RW drive, both of which I have on their own IDE cables. The cables are obviously plugged in tightly, and everything is fine. After the Bios screen, I get to the PCI/DRAM/IRQ screen, which then proceeds to try to load an OS off the HDD. It sits for 30 secs or so, and then it says "Disk read failure, ctrl-alt-del to restart"

I've tried different jumper settings, different IDE channels, turning off the ATA100 controller, everything. Please help!!
 
1: Are you absolutely sure that the drive is not dead?
2: Does the bios see the drive?
 
I am 100% the drive isnt dead. I put it back on my old PC, and I am on it right now. works flawlessly.

IT is recognized in the BIOS.


COULD IT BE.... that is is formatted w/ NTFS win2k Pro?
 
What OS are you using? Windows is notoriously bad about just being able to switch hdd's from one motherboard to another.
 
Windows 2000 Professional.

I have decided I will attempt to format.
NTFS/FAT32 shouldn't make a difference, right? (I prefer NTFS)
