IDE HD problem

Hi all,

why would a ide HD with 3 partitions sometimes gets only 2 partitions recognized. I have been using the drive mainly as a storage device by plugging it in externally through a usb ide adapter.

can it be an issue with the drive or the cabling setup.

Is it always the same partition that isn't recognized? Do you always hook the adapter to the drive and power it up first before connecting the USB connector (the way it should be done)? Are all the USB updates from M$ and the mobo chipset maker installed? I use an external drive with 5 logical drives on it with no problems using a similar IDE/USB adapter cable. I have noticed that mine generates a lot of RFI but IDK if that would have any effect on most computers - just my AM radio... I just have one extended partition on the drive with all the logical drives allocated within that - IMO, external drives should never have primary partitions on them...

Did you check this partition?
May be the os can't recognize it due to unsuitable file system?

its always the same partition. only 1 time when I connected did it show up and that was after I was playing with the drive jumpers.

how can you tell if all the usb updates are installed???
