I have a epox 8rda+ nforce2 board and all of my IDE drives (both optical and both hard drives) are showing up as SCSI drives in the hardware profiles in windows. This wouldn't bother me much except for the fact that whenever I try to burn any cds in Nero, it starts up the pre-burn caching and then just aborts and ejects the cd. I'm pretty sure these are probably interrelated. Any ideas as to why this would happen?

Athlon XP 2200+
Epox 8RDA+

80gb Seagate 7200.1
Lite-on cd-rw

geforce mx440 64mb
Sound Blaster audigy
Windows XP Home

edit: forgot to mention that I have the newest nforce2 drivers and newest bios update.

If your drive is on the RAID controller, it will show up as SCSI in device manager, but this shouldn't hurt anything.

well they're not set up on RAID so that's the thing. My main concern is the fact that I can't burn any cd's anymore. I tried nero and clonecd and neither will allow me to get past the buffering of the files. Once they buffer, it just aborts itself and ejects the cd-r. Tried updating the cd-rw drive firmware and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

it's because of the nForce IDE drivers. Uninstall them and everything should work fine

go to your device manager.. click update driver on the nvidia IDE controller..
"install from a list or specific location" - > "Don't Search. I will choose which driver to install"

choose the "Standard Dual Channel IDE COntroller"
