IDE configuration

I currently have 2 harddrives, DVD-rom, and CDRW. Currently, I have two harddrives hooked up to one IDE as master and slave, and DVD-rom as master and CDRW slave on the other IDE.

What is the best configuration for the above four devices? Should I put each harddrive and each CD-rom on different IDE's? Are there any benefits to different configurations or does it not matter how the devices are hooked up??
