I have the A7V133 and:

IBM 60GXP 40GB
Plex 16/10/40A
Creative PC-DVD 6X
Asus 50X CD-ROM

Where and how should I put those four devices onto the VIA ATA 100 and the Promise ATA100 controllers. How will they be in optimal performance and stability?

Thanx

I am lost do you have 2 channel on board and a promise card? If so...

HDD on promise card

cd-rom as primary master
cd-rw as secondary master
dvd-rom as sceondary slave

If you have only two channels and I have misunderstood...

hdd as primary master
cd-rom as primary slave
cd-rw as secondary master
dvd-rom as secondary slave

ultimately this has been the most stabile and best performance for me...bench yourself and test yourself in diff configs.

No it's not a card, it's the onboard promise controller. So I have four channels. I agree with your suggestions but why is it better to put the cd-rw and the dvd on the same channel than on their own? E.g the dvd on the secondary promise. After all I want buy anything so I don't care if I don't have any free channel for future upgrades.

I would place them in this order:

Primary ATA100: HDD Master
Primary channel: CD Master / DVD Slave
Secondary channel: CD-RW Master

I think this would allow for cleaner CD-CD burns.

Ophir's way is fine too...I never burn from my dvd so I didn't think about it...

When you get more hdd's place them on the promise controller...I have just heard it is better to keep non ata100 stuff off them. Dunno just heard it.

Maybe some day a dvd-rw on the secondary slave!!!!!!!!!
