IDE Channel Question

Building a new comp w/ 2 HD's (non raid) DVD and a CDRW. I heard your not exposed to put teh CDRW on the same channel as CD/DVD. So is there a particular way I should arrange my devices?

Actually I dont really see a different way to arrange your drives. You can go get an ide adapter and install it on a pci slot but that would be a waste of money, no? Cdrom drives usually should not be installed on the same channel as the hard drive. So your setup should be:
Primary 1. Hard Drive (master) 2. Hard Drive (slave)
Secondary 1. Dvd Drive (master) 2. CDRW Drive (slave)

for the secondary channel I think the order of the drives could go either way...

All depends on how you want your transfers to occur. If you will be burning from your primary hard drive and your DVD/CD-RW drive, then put the burner as master on the secondary channel and slave the second hard disk to it. This will also increase hard drive to hard drive transfers. If you want to burn from the second hard drive, then put the burner as slave on the primary IDE and put the second hard drive as master on the secondary IDE.

I have the same setup. For me, one hdd is for windows and the other is for files. Since all my mp3s are on my second hdd, my burner is on a different channel.

Primary IDE:
HDD (the one with windows) and the burner
Secondary IDE:
HDD (the one with my files) and the DVD

I use the DVD drive to install programs so this setup works out perfectly for me. I can also do direct CD to CD copying this way.
