I tried adding a harddrive to my comp last night and ran into a problem. I have a 40G 7200 2mb seagate which has my OS and data (set as the master) and tried adding a 80G 7200 8mb maxtor (set as slave). The seatgate was on ide 2 and the cdrom and dvdrw were on ide 1 and everything worked fine but after reboot the cdrom and dvd disappeared. I rearranged the drives in this formation
ide 1 seagate-master, maxtor slave; ide 2 cdrom master, dvdrw slave. The bios recognizes the drives properly but I still have question marks beside primary and secondary ide channel in device manager. I reinstalled the nvidia allinone driver but it doesnt help.

Suggestion appreciated,

Thanks

I set all HDD's and opticals to cable select then re-arrange them in BIOS (or physicaly by the cable) if need be - havn't had a problem reckonising (only slightly slower performance if I mix Optical with HDD on the same channel as it will only run as fast as the slowest device.

Does the MB have SATA or IDE RAID controllers???

If so, make sure the options are they within the BIOS to disable their use
